Coconut Birthday Cake Sugar Scrub

this past monday i experienced a day like i haven’t known in years.
last month, on my birthday, my husband presented me with a gift certificate for a day at the spa. so monday was spa day.ALL DAY… honestly translating into 5 hours, but to a mother of two little people that is ALL-FREAKING-DAY.
a hot stone massage. a facial. a manicure. a pedicure. see… seriously amazing.
i didn’t even quite know what to do with myself and the time and the quiet and the pampering. i even got to eat lunch in a room. by myself. without getting up to get something for someone. or feeding someone else half of my food. or cleaning up the floor after my meal.
it’s funny how us mommies struggle to relax when given the opportunity. even with 5 hours to myself, i felt this odd need to rush home. i knew all was well with my kids. my mother-in-law and my husband both were playing man-to-man kid patrol. in the midst of being the care-givers to so many in our households, why is it so hard to care for ourselves? even once in a very long while?
this month the recipe redux encouraged us to make a homemade mix that would make a good holiday or hostess gift.

yes, this one is an inedible gift, (though, truly you could eat it… just don’t, okay) but it’s time we care for ourselves. you could give it away. but, heck, give yourself a gift, mommy. you deserve it.

(just in case you’re feeling a little jealous, i just now folded underwear, wiped a nose, changed a diaper, and i’m typing this sentence with one hand and a baby on my hip. spa day is over.)
