Peanut Butter-Chocolate Valentine Pretzels

peanut butter-chocolate valentine pretzels | kumquat

if you’re looking for a sweet-salty simple treat for your valentine, i have your answer.

if you need a super easy (& healthier) bag of goodies for 15-20 kids in your child’s classroom, i really have the answer for you.

i am the first to admit it is easy to indulge on sugar on valentine’s day. but i also don’t want my kids spending their sugar allowance on pointless, flavorless conversation hearts or sugar-packed jellybeans. and i want to support my kid’s friends’ tiny immune systems too! (Lord knows, this time of year where we live, fresh air above 5° and sunshine-ready vitamin D are in short supply!)

but hey, it’s valentine’s day and chocolate needs to be involved. so this year, my son will be handing out packs of regular gluten-free pretzels with a handful of these peanut-butter chocolate valentine pretzels to sweeten the deal. if your child’s classmates have peanut allergies, you can substitute the peanut butter cups with a piece of chocolate or even chocolate chips.

happy valentine’s day!

Peanut Butter-Chocolate Valentine Pretzels

Ingredients

  • gluten-free pretzels
  • mini peanut butter-chocolate cups
  • heart sprinkles such as Wilton

Instructions

  • Place pretzels on a baking sheet. Place mini peanut butter-chocolate cups upside down (narrower side up) on top of pretzels.
  • Place under a broiler for 1-2 minutes, or until chocolate begins to melt. Remove from heat.
  • Immediately, place one heart sprinkle on top of each chocolate. Be careful not to press or tap heart too firmly or it will sink into melted chocolate.
  • Allow to set either at room temperature or in the fridge.
