what does a dietitian-mommy do when she has signed up to provide valentine’s snacks for the whole 2nd grade class?
the first things that went through my head:
- there must be protein – cheese, summer sausage & cracker tray
- there must be fruit – skewers of heart shaped watermelon, honeydew & strawberries
- it will all be gluten-free so that my kid can (FINALLY) eat all of the food at the class party
- okay, it is valentine’s day… so i have to have some kind of dessert-y thing. but i don’t want more piles of sugar to add to their piles of valentine’s candy
many thanks to this brilliant post from one little project, these gummi pretzel arrows were the answer!
adorable and simple. easily adapted to gluten-free.
the party was a success! there wasn’t a bit of cheese or sausage or fruit left over. i was proud of those little folks for eating some good nutritious snacks and filling their bellies with more than candy hearts and starburst.
happy valentine’s day!!
