welcome to my humble, little blog. i am gretchen.
about kumquat
in 2011, i cautiously and excitedly began the journey of this site. my passions for food, recipe developing, and food styling were initially the key drivers. but quickly i was overwhelmed and overjoyed with the opportunity to help others and spread hope… hope of eating delicious gluten-free foods, full of nutrition, belly-soothing, and comforting.
i think about food, a lot. i love making something wonderful and beautiful and sharing it here, with you. blending flavors and textures, and mixing up gluten-free treats are my personal art form. this dear site is devoted to the belief that gluten-free food can and should be easy to prepare, wholesome, and delicious enough for everyone. i hope you find something you love here, that will bring hope and delight to your gluten-free table.
about gretchen
i am a registered dietitian, professional recipe developer, experienced food stylist, and cookbook author.
i became a dietitian after studying nutrition at baylor university and emory university hospital. though i am incredibly intrigued by medical nutrition, my love of cooking led me into a test kitchen apron instead of a clinical white coat. i landed a dream job with oxmoor house, testing recipes and food styling for several publications and their cookbooks (cooking light, southern living, coastal living, and weight watchers, to name a few), working with incredibly talented and inspiring people.
for almost 20 years, i’ve had the opportunity to style food for print, editorial, commercials, and hollywood film for big and small companies. the majority of my current work is as a freelance professional recipe developer, food stylist, and food photography, specializing in gluten-free recipes.
i am also thrilled to have published my first book! Fast & Simple Gluten Free was such fun to create…. but mostly i am grateful that through it i have the chance to share the hope of eating delicious, quick and easy, gluten-free food.
2014 saw the creation of a new venture… Blog Brûlée! after discovering my love for blogging and wanting to mentor other new bloggers, i was thrilled to be joined by 3 other incredible dietitian bloggers to make that happen. this new annual event has been an exciting and fantastic part of my life as a blogger.
my greatest joys and pride are the sweet gluten-free people who live under my roof. a supportive husband and three awfully cute kiddos.
why “kumquat”?
because it’s the nickname you would give to someone or something you love. not to mention, it’s a sweet/tart, adorable citrus fruit with a name that’s fun to say.
